How it works

1

Choose your First Goal

The one that matters most right now: run your first 5K, save for a house, finish a course. Tap the flag, and it’s your First Goal.

2

Its tasks come first

Every task for your First Goal sits at the top of your to-do list, above everything else, soonest due first. You always know what to do first.

3

Keep the rest on track

Your other goals and to-dos follow in order, and FirstGoal works out the pace each goal needs. It updates every time you log.

Your First Goal, always first

Pick the goal that matters most. Its tasks are labeled First and stay at the top of your list.

  • One First Goal at a time, so the choice stays clear.
  • Its tasks sit above every priority, soonest due first.
  • Finished it? Mark it complete and choose your next First Goal.

Goals with real progress math

See exactly where you stand and what it takes to finish on time.

  • Track a running total (miles, dollars, books) or a current value (weight, balance).
  • Your required pace per day or week, recalculated with every log.
  • Progress charts, milestones and supporting goals.

Example

Run 500 miles in 6 months (182 days)

CurrentTarget
275 miles500 miles
55% to goal
Required pace2.50 miles/day
What’s left: 225 milesDays remaining: 90

Day one: 500 miles ÷ 182 days = 2.75 miles a day.

Three months in, you’re at 275 miles, a little ahead: 225 to go ÷ 90 days left = 2.50 miles a day.

Behind pace? Miss a week and FirstGoal moves today’s target to 2.71 miles (225 ÷ 83 days) — automatically.

Questions

What is a First Goal?

It’s the one goal that matters most to you right now. You pick it with a tap, and FirstGoal keeps its tasks at the top of your to-do list, labeled First, above every priority. You can change it any time, but there’s only ever one.

What happens after the free trial?

Nothing, unless you choose a plan. You get 14 days of everything with no card needed. Subscribe any time for $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year; if you don’t, your account turns read-only and your data stays safe.

Why a subscription?

FirstGoal has no ads and never sells your data, so your subscription is what pays for it. It covers syncing across your devices, sending your reminders, backing up your data, and new features. If you stop paying, nothing is deleted. Your account turns read-only, and you can still see, download or delete everything.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes, in two taps from Settings. You keep access until the end of the time you’ve paid for, and you’re never charged again.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, and on computers and tablets too. It runs in your browser, so there’s no app store download, and you can add it to your home screen to use it like an app. Your tasks and goals sync across all your devices.

Should I use goals or tasks?

Start with a goal for any longer-term result you can measure, like “Read 24 books this year.” FirstGoal works out the pace you need. Then add tasks for anything you can finish within a day, one-time or repeating, like “Run Mon, Wed, Fri.”

Is my data private?

Yes. We never sell your data or show ads inside the app. Any time, you can download everything as a JSON file or delete it all from Settings.

Why I built FirstGoal

Since I was a kid, I’ve dared myself to hit SMART goals. That means specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. The habit took me to valedictorian, a 4.0 with a bachelor’s in microbiology, and near the top of my medical school class. Today I’m an internal medicine physician.

I wanted goals for every part of my life in one place: health, finances, learning and more. I tried to-do lists, task trackers and habit apps. They focused on today’s tasks or streaks and lost sight of the long-term goals behind them.

So I built FirstGoal around the way I think about goals. Each goal gets a number to hit, with the pace worked out for you. It gets a “why”, milestones and supporting goals. Then come the daily tasks that get you there.

Put together, it’s a plan for your whole life, and a clear answer to “what should I do today?”
